How To Get A Green Padlock and SSL Certificate For Your WordPress Website – HTTPS

The SSL indicates that your site is secure and can be trusted to safely process information such as contact information, credit cards, and billing address. HTTPS can be incredibly valuable for your site as it creates a secure channel between the browser and the website. A secure connection is a must-have for sites that process personal information like an eCommerce website.

People share many data and information on the internet. In order to protect and secure those exchanges, SSL and HTTPS have been developed. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral in order to prevent eavesdropping and masquerading. A certificate authority or certification authority (CA) is an organization that is trusted to sign digital certificates. An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that certifies the ownership of a public key.

SSL (short for secure sockets layer) is the certificate that encrypts communications between the server and the person visiting your website. In order to use SSL, you need to have an SSL

Certificate installed on your server. Once installed, your web address will change from http:// to https:// to indicate that your website is secure.

HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) refers to a URI scheme and a communication protocol for secure communication over a computer network, widely used on the Internet. The main purpose of HTTPS is authentication of the visited website and protection of the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data.

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. WordPress is the most popular website management or blogging system in use on the Web, supporting more than 60 million websites.

Getting a green padlock means that users find your website safe and secure. The green padlock and SSL certificate on the WordPress website requires the following steps:

1. Purchase an SSL certificate from web hosting providers such as GoDaddy, Siteground, Hostgator, Bluehost etc. The web hosting provider will install the certificate in your server.

2. Use the SSL Insecure Content Fixer Plugin. The plugin will force the links in your site to be served as HTTPS rather than HTTP. It will effectively convert your entire site from insecure to secure. After running SSL Insecure Content Fixer, install and run the Broken Link Checker plugin to ensure that all links still work.

3. If the steps 1 and 2 are not working, use Why No Padlock to identify insecure content on your site. To use Why No Padlock, you simply input your website’s address into the main form on the site. The app will list out the links on your site that are still insecure.

You are successful if your website displays the green padlock icon on your website.
