Al Pacino is one of the famous American actors who has remained one of Hollywood’s premier actor throughout this career. He is the actor that everyone loves. His acting career has left us some of the most iconic movies ever made, such as Scarface, The Godfather, and Heat.
Alfredo James Pacino was born on April 25, 1940, in East Harlem. He was only the child of Italian immigrant Rose (Gerardi) and Sal Pacino from Sicily who separated when he was two years old. His mother and grandparents Raised Pacino in the Bronx.
Early life and education
He was known as “Sonny” to his friend and was nicknamed “The Actor” in his teen years. He attended the legendary High School of Performing Arts but at the age of 17, failing most of his classes he eventually dropped out of the school. His mother didn’t agree with his decision, they argued and he left home.
To pursue his dreams of becoming an actor, he worked a variety of jobs. He worked at low-paying jobs such as messenger, busboy, janitor, and postal clerk.
He acted in basement plays in New York’s theatrical underground but was rejected for the Actors Studio. Pacino began studying theater at the Herbert Berghof Study where he met not only his mentor but also his best friend Charlie Laughton.
He was often unemployed and homeless and sometimes slept in a storefront for a few days, in theaters or at friend’s houses.
In 1966, Pacino made the next step forward in his career when he was accepted at the Actors Studio, where he studied under renowned coach Lee Strasberg. and in 1969 he performed in the Broadway play ‘Does A Tiger Wear a Necktie? by this performance, he received a Tony Award. And also he started to play in minor role in a short film. He was cast as ‘Bobby ‘in the 1972movies received wide critical praise and won Academy Awards, he started as Francis Lionel ‘Lion’ Debauching in Scarecrow and won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival, and same year, he was nominated for an Academy Award for best actor for his role in Serpico, based on the true story of New York City policeman Frank Serpico. In 1974, he awarded by Academy award-winning ‘The Godfather Part II’’. In 1975 he hit the big screen film named ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ and by the film, he was nominated as the best actor. His movies were critically panned and were also not very successful commercially. In 1990, he starred in the third and final Godfather series film The Godfather, Part III, for which he was nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Actors.
AWARD & ACHIEVEMENT:
Pacino received his first Best Actor Oscar nomination for Serpico (1973) also he was nominated for The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon (1975) And Justice for All (1979) and won the award in 1993 for his performance as a blind Lieutenant Colonel in Scent of a Woman (1992). For his performances in The Godfather, Dick Tracy (1990) and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Pacino was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Al Pacino is a lifelong bachelor. However, he is the father of three children. He always wanted to be different with his children Julie and twins Anton and Olivia. He wanted to be responsible to them, that’s the reason he separates his time between two coasts.
